Week 3: Day 4

DCC Workshop Visit

We started off the day on site at the DCC workshop to get a close look at the behind-the-scene works. The workshop is situated in 22000 m2 of storage area for assorted crane materials and mobile units. It is also equipped with working areas for carpentry and metal fabrication. The workshop is responsible for many site facilities such as site fencing, signage, offices, as well as scaffolding. Mr. Bennett, the Storage Manager, guided us through different areas of the workshop to allow close observation of commonly used construction equipment. He took the time to run a demo of the hydraulic mobile crane to further add to our learning experience.

MEP Lecture

In the afternoon, we headed to the Albanian International headquarters located in Al Quoz Industrial Estate 3 for a lecture on MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) works. Mr. Amir Rushdy and Mr. Ali Hammad prepared an interesting presentation on how MEP services are installed and used in a construction project. The lecture familiarized us with the basic functions and components of MEP systems as civil engineers in order to carry out better and more thorough construction projects.
