Week 1: Day 6

Construction Planning & Scheduling

Saturday was a day of lectures given by Mr. Bassam Haddad, head of the planning department at DCC, on construction planning and scheduling. The day began with the first lecture in the morning. This lecture included the definition of planning and scheduling. Planning and scheduling play a key role in construction to ensure that a project will finish on time. Mr. Haddad discussed different tools that planners use to organize the works of a project. These tools include bar charts and network diagrams. Mr. Haddad further discussed the Project General Document that DCC uses for organizational purposes and to keep the project on the critical path. The students were also instructed on the Site Booklet which is present on site for the the project manager as a general outline of the project. The Site Booklet acts as a condensed PGD.

The afternoon lecture was used to illustrate the usage of organization software Primavera. This example gave the students a brief overview of the program and how it can be used to create a schedule for a construction project.

Basketball Practice

Later that night the DSLIP students participated in their first basketball practice which was a very successful event. The only issue that arose during basketball practice was a foul by one player to take out another. All issues were resolved and all had a great time!
