Construction Management
Our third lecture was on construction management and was presented by DCC's Contract Director, Mr. Ian Harper. The workshop tackled key aspects of construction management such as time, cost, quality, safety, and environmental impacts while also defining the trade-off between these elements that occurs through the different stages of a project.
After lunch, Mr. Harper resumed his lecture and introduced the concept of a Construction Management Team. We learned that a good management required leadership and cooperation between team members, while also defining the tasks and responsibilities of each member including the project directer, project manager, contract manager, planning engineer, QA/QC engineer, quantity surveyor, and Health & Safety engineer.
Dinner at JW Mariott
At 7:00 pm, a dinner was held at JW Mariott Hotel where students enjoyed a rich and varied buffet. The interns were joined by Dr. Sam Clemence and various members of the DCC staff. As usual, Dr. Clemence launched the dinner with few jokes and after enjoying the buffet, the interns returned to the Hotel.
